What are envelope numbers?

Envelopes are a great way to ensure a higher level of confidentiality for people who contribute to your church. Each person can be assigned an “envelope number” which can be used by church staff when entering contributions. This way, they can only use the number and do not need to know the name of the person.

You can manage envelope numbers by going to Contributions > Envelopes. 

Add an envelope number

To add an envelope number, please follow the steps below: 

  • Go to Contributions > Envelopes.

  • Click on Add Envelope.

  • Enter the envelope number that you would like to assign.

  • Select the person to which you would like to assign the number.

  • Click Save and your envelope number will be ready to use when adding new contributions.

Note that envelope numbers cannot be edited once assigned.

 

Delete an envelope number

To delete an envelope number, simply find it in your list, click the options button next to it and select Delete. 

Next, confirm your choice to delete. This will not affect the contributions that have already been added using this envelope number. They will continue to be assigned to the appropriate person who has been assigned the number.

 

Reassign Envelope Numbers

You can assign envelope numbers to a different member by following these steps:

  • Delete the envelope that you want to reassign. 

  • Create a new envelope and assign the number to a new member.

  • Create a new envelope for the member whose envelope you just deleted and assign a different number.

This process will not affect existing contributions in any way, so deleting and reassigning envelope numbers is safe to do.
 

Export envelope numbers

You can export an excel file containing the envelope number, as well as the first and last name of the person they are assigned to, by clicking the Export button at the top right of the list.

Import Envelopes

We’ve developed a tool that helps you import envelopes easily and avoid adding manually. You can reach this tool by clicking the Import button at the top of your Envelopes list. 

 

Disable the Envelope Number Field

If you are not using envelopes for contributions and want to disable the Envelope Number Field, you can do so by following these steps:

  • Go to Settings > Profile Fields
  • Disable the Envelope Number field.

Note that this does not disable the Envelopes feature under Contributions.
