Introduction
PayPal is a payment provider which you can integrate with ChMeetings in order to accept online giving or collect event paymenta. PayPal will be the platform that holds your funds as part of this integration, while ChMeetings facilitates the processing of the transaction as part of your church management system.
Connecting to PayPal
You can get started integrating PayPal by going to Settings > Integrations > Payment Provider.
Next, click the Configure button under the Payment Provider section.
You will now see a window where you can select PayPal as your payment provider, and enter your business email - the one associated with your PayPal account. Click on Integrate once you have provided this information.
PayPal is now integrated with your ChMeetings account.
Disconnecting from PayPal
If you ever need to disconnect this integration or switch payment providers, you can do so by clicking the Disconnect button.
You will be asked if you are sure that you want to disconnect. Please click again on Disconnect if you are, or on Cancel if you are not.
If the disconnection is confirmed, PayPal will be removed from your ChMeetings account. Your existing funds will be unaffected by this procedure, but you will no longer be able to collect contributions using ChMeetings and PayPal.
Troubleshooting
PayPal Payments Cancelled or Not Recorded
Sometimes you may have issues with event payments being cancelled or online donations not being recorded.
If you experience canceled payments, or your transactions are not recorded within your PayPal account, it may be because Instant Payment Notification (IPN) is not enabled on your PayPal account. Here is how to check:
-
Go to your PayPal Account Settings, from under your profile icon.
-
Go to Instant Payment Notification.
- Go to Notifications.
-
Click Update, next to Instant Payment Notification.
-
Next, check that Message Delivery is Enabled. If not, please click Turn On IPN to enable the feature. Your transactions should then run smoothly.
-
If you want to check transactions in detail, you can go to the IPN History Page.
Donations Are Not Being Accepted
If donors receive an error message saying that your organization cannot accept donations, it may be due to the configuration within the PayPal account you connect under Contributions > Online Giving > Giving Settings. Here are some of the issues you may be having within your PayPal Account:
1. Your PayPal Account Is Limited (Most Common)
This may happen because:
- Account not verified
- Missing KYC documents
- Suspicious activity
- Recently created account
- Exceeded receiving limits
To address this issue:
- Log in to the PayPal account
- Go to Resolution Center
- Check for:
- Account limitations - Remove all limitations first.
- Requests for identity verification
- Required documents
2. Your Account Is Not Set Up to Receive Payments
If you are using a Personal PayPal account, donations may fail. You need a Business account to fix this. Here is what you need to do:
- Upgrade to a PayPal Business account
- Confirm your email address
- Confirm your bank account
- Confirm your identity
3. Your Email Is Not Confirmed
It is possible that you have not verified the email address for your PayPal account. To verify your email:
- Log into PayPal
- Go to Settings > Email
- Confirm the email address used in the donation link
4. The Receiving Currency Is Not Enabled
If the currency in which you receive donations in ChMeetings is USD, and your PayPal Account is not configured to receive donations in USD, then you need to enable the currency, by going to Wallet and adding USD as a currency
5. The Donation Feature Is Disabled
If you are using the PayPal Donations button:
- Your account must allow donations.
- Your account must not be restricted.
Have a look at steps 1-4 and make sure none of these apply to you. Afterwards, recreate the Donation button.
6. Your Account Is Frozen or Under Review
If PayPal detects high-risk activity, they temporarily block receiving payments.
Only PayPal Support can help you fix this.
